Erasing The Lines

ETL Highlights 2011

Erasing The Lines 2011 could have very well been the most powerful ETL that we have ever experienced. From the work sites to evening worship, we truly experienced the presence of God flowing into every aspect of what we were doing. The weather seemed to cooperate wonderfully and many lives were impacted through the hands of feet of the 164 participating youth.

Looking at the statistics you would see 164 participants, 250 volunteers, 17 church vans,15 participating churches, 30 work sites, 4 corporate sponsors, 800 chicken quarters, 2 worship bands, constant prayer, 1way, 1 truth, 1 life.....Jesus!

Our theme "REBUILD" focused on the first six chapters of Nehemiah and the reconstruction of the walls of Jerusalem. We were able to not only focus on how the book of Nehemiah helped us learn how to work on the walls of our own cities, but to even more importantly focus on examining the broken walls in our own lives. We learned that Nehemiah first mourned and fasted for days, for the sins of his people and for himself. He recognized that it was only God that could do the rebuilding of the city and only when he and his people repented and turned back to God.

On Thursday evening, the traditional community picnic was held in the parking lot of Queen’s Street United Methodist Church with over 600 people from throughout the community joining together for fellowship and worship. We thought that we might have trouble with storms but what happened next was truly a blessing. We quickly had to take everything down and move everyone into the sanctuary at Queen Street UMC where we had 30 minutes of powerful worship and fellowship as the storms passed over. Afterwards we moved outside where we had a great meal and fellowship followed by worship music from Southwood Christian Church praise band.

The week wrapped up on June 24th with a closing ceremony attended by families, friends, and community leaders.  Smiles, hugs and tears marked the faces of those participating as they said their goodbyes and loaded up their gear....already talking about next year's ETL.  The greatest work accomplished was not that of the groups around the city, it was the work of the Holy Spirit on the hearts of all who participated in the eighth ETL experience.
