Erasing The Lines 2010 will go down in the record books on many different levels. First off, THE HEAT!...What an incredibly hot week we had to serve our risen Savior. Every day exceeded 95 degrees with a heat index of more than 105. Secondly, we had 164 participants in Erasing The Lines and 44 more in our newest program for the children, Connecting The Dots. In all we had 208 campers for this summers mission.
Looking at the statistics you would see 164 participants, 250 volunteers, 17 church vans,15 participating churches, 30 work sites, 4 corporate sponsors, 800 chicken quarters, 2 worship bands, constant prayer, 1way, 1 truth, 1 life.....Jesus!
Our theme "City on Our Knees" and or scripture was from 1 Kings 18 where Elijah confronts Ahab and the false prophets of baal. We looked at the question that Elijah asked the false prophets.."How long will you waiver between two opinions?" We applied this same question to our own lives and began to identify some of the idols that we cling to. In the end we turned our attention back to Christ as we realized that there is only one way to everlasting life with the Father, and everything else will lead us astray. At the end of the Scripture everone was on their face proclaiming "The Lord, He is God...The Lord, He is God!" |
On Thursday evening, the traditional community picnic was held in the parking lot of Queen’s Street United Methodist Church with over 600 people from throughout the community joining together for fellowship and worship. The Connecting The Dots children opened us up with a powerful drama about creation and after dinner we were led in worship by Kevin Lavar from The Heart That Forgives Campaign.
The week wrapped up on June 25th with a closing ceremony attended by families, friends, and community leaders. Smiles, hugs and tears marked the faces of those participating as they said their goodbyes and loaded up their gear....already talking about next year's ETL. The greatest work accomplished was not that of the groups around the city, it was the work of the Holy Spirit on the hearts of all who participated in the seventh ETL experience.
