It's About Time For What? "Some people see things as
they are
and ask why.

The intent of Son Set Ministries is not to compete with other denominationally oriented or secular camps. While our camping programs and ministry are an important aspect of our overall purpose, Son Set Ministries will provide the resources, facilities and staff that churches and other ministries cannot individually provide; thereby affording a greater opportunity to expand their own ministries. Son Set Ministries will always attempt to complement the efforts of local churches, ministries and outreach programs consistent with our mission, vision and guiding principles. In addition to supporting other organizations in ministry by providing facilities and recreational opportunities, Son Set Ministries will also provide its own programs. These include residential summer camp, retreat weekends, and outreach programs. While fees to attend camp vary, the national average weekly for resident camps in 2006 was $597 per week, and the average day camp fee was $303 per week. A primary effort of Son Set Ministries is to get those youth to camp who could not normally afford the fees. Children from low income families, especially those from the inner-city are of great concern and providing them the opportunity to attend camp is a top priority of Son Set Ministries. Our goal is to provide 600 youth from low-income families a camping experience each year at no cost to them. Through our youth-at-risk program, many of these teenage youth, will be afforded the opportunity to work as seasonal employees at the Refuge, thereby providing them a reasonable income, stable environment, and a nurturing community. It’s all about a hand up, not a hand out! Upon completion of Phase III construction, the Refuge will employ an estimated 11 permanent staff and 38 seasonal workers along with numerous volunteers
